Open Streets Hamilton is proud to be teaming up with the Social Planning & Research Council of Hamilton on drawing awareness of a Complete Streets Policy in Hamilton.
Over the summer, we will be presenting information on what is a “Complete Street”, and letting residents, businesses and organizations know what they can do to help Hamilton adopt a city-wide Complete Streets policy.

What is a Complete Street?
Improvements to our physical, social, economic and cultural environment around us is the best recipe for better health. Research shows that these social determinants of health influence our health in more significant ways than genetics, lifestyle or behaviour alone.
A Complete Streets policy is one way to improve our physical environment so that all modes of travel are safe, convenient and comfortable and people can have more choice for how they get around our city.
As well as making neighbourhoods healthier, complete streets also make neighbourhoods more inclusive by leveling the playing field and improving one part of daily life for those who often face discrimination in the labour market, housing, and in broader society. For example, Aboriginals and racialized communities, female lone parents, or persons with disabilities are more likely to be transit users or pedestrians and benefit from streets that are designed for all users, not just motor vehicles.
